One of the five thieves who robbed Kim Kardashian in Paris in 2016 is releasing a tell-all book about what really happened during the £8million jewellery heist.

Yunice Abbas, who is in his 60s, was one of 11 suspects charged following the robbery, and is currently awaiting trial. In his book, I sequestered Kim Kardashian, published in France next week, he reveals how the reality star tried to dial 911 for help.

The gang of five thieves tied and bound the reality star and mother-of-four on October 2 2016 while she stayed at her apartment in the luxury Hotel de Pourtalès complex in Paris for Fashion Week. In total, they stole an estimated $10million worth of jewellery, including the star’s engagement ring after holding a gun to her head.

In the book, which was shared with French Closer, Abbas revealed the group mistakenly took the star’s phone with then as they left the scene, and realised singer Tracy Chapman was calling her.

He also revealed the group relied on elderly people to scout the building in order to prepare for the theft, and that Kim and her secretary kept calling 911 in the first moments of the robbery, in spite of being in France.

Yunice Abbas, O=one of the five men who robbed Kim Kardashian in Paris in 2016 is releasing a book where he details what happened during the heist, including the fact Kim Kardashian, pictured with Kanya West in Paris in March 2020,  tried to call 911 and received a call from Tracy Chapman

It is not clear why Abbas, who has never been pictured, decided to write a book confessing his involvement ahead of trial. In June it was reported that prosecutors were pushing for a date to be set, but magistrates have yet to make a decision on whether to proceed to trial.

Abbas recounts how the five men fled the robbery using bikes, and almost dropped their booty on the streets of Paris while trying to avoid police.

He tells how the unexpected sound of a phone coming from the bag that contained Kim’s jewels struck him.

‘Right at the moment I cross a police car scouting the neighbourhood, I jump at the sound of an incongruous cellphone ringtone,’ he writes.

‘In front of my incredulous eyes, a name appears on the screen as it lights up. No way, I must be tripping,’ he adds, explaining it was the singer Tracy Chapman who was calling Kim Kardashian’s phone, which the thieves had taken without even realising.

Going back to how the heist was organised, he revealed that the gang used elderly associates to scout out the buiding located right in the centre of Paris.

‘What’s more reassuring than the elderly, who are as peaceful as they are anonymous, to gather a maximum of information on scene,’ Abbas writes.

The thief, who is waiting to go on trial for his crime, alongside 11 people arrested in 2017 following DNA testing, also explained how Kim Kardashian and her secretary dealt with the stressful situation.

‘Our two beauties stubbornly tried to call 911,’ Abbas writes in the book, ‘the emergency call number for the US. Not very efficient when you are in Paris.’

He added that the TV reality star ‘complied’ once she realised the robbers were not ‘threatening her life.’

The book is much anticipated in France ahead of its publication on February 4, more than four years after the robbery.

Kardashian had been left alone in the suite while her bodyguard went to a nightclub on the Champs-Elysées with her sisters, Kourtney and Kendall Jenner.

HOW THE ARMED RAID AT KIM KARDASHIAN’S PARIS APARTMENT PLAYED OUT:

Five men dressed as police officers enter the building after the concierge let them in.

The concierge is handcuffed at gunpoint, he then leads the men to the starlet’s flat.

The men enter Kim’s room and threaten her with a gun to her head.

They tie her up and lock her in the bathroom as she begs for her life.

The robbers steal $10 million worth of jewellery including a jewellery box and a ring, before fleeing.

Kanye West cancels his set at the Meadow Music and Art Festival, New York, as he hears about the raid.

Kim’s sisters Kourtney and Kendall Jenner stop partying at Arc nightclub in Paris and rush to the apartment after hearing of the heist.

Pictures show Kim’s bodyguard out with Kourtney at the time, not back at the apartment with Kim.

The actress’ family are placed under police protection at the George V palace after the incident.

Kardashian was tied up and put in the hotel bathroom as the robbers selected pieces of her diamond jewellery.

Personal treasures taken included two Cartier diamond bracelets, a Jacob necklace in gold inlaid with diamonds, earrings with diamonds and a necklace by Loraine Schwarz.

While Kardashian was not seriously hurt, she was said to be ‘badly shaken’.

Kim, who is rumoured to be divorcing her husband of six years Kanye West, recounted her experienced of the traumatising theft on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman in October.

With tears in her eyes, she recalled how she was only wearing a robe at the time and thought she would be raped by the thieves.

‘He grabbed me and pulled me towards him but I wasn’t wearing anything underneath,’ she said.

‘So I was like, “OK, this is the time I’m going to get raped. Just deal, it’s gonna happen. Just prepare yourself.” So I did… But then he tied me up with handcuffs and zip ties and duct tape,’ she added.

Fighting back tears, she went on to say she was convinced she was going to die during the robbery and kept thinking of her sister, Kourtney, who had travelled to Paris with her, and was sharing her room.

‘I saw him have a gun out to me. And I’m like, ‘OK, this is it.’ And I just kept on thinking about Kourtney.

I kept on thinking, “She’s gonna come home and I’m going to be dead in the room. She’s gonna be traumatised for the rest of her life if she sees me.” We’re sharing her room. [I’m] on her bed. But I thought that was my fate.’

The star revealed the robbery had had a lasting impact on her mental health as well.

‘I was just really scared of everything. I can’t sleep at night unless there are a half a dozen security guards at my house and that has become my reality, and that’s OK,’ she said.
