Chelsea travel to Leeds United in the early kick-off in the Premier League looking to bolster their push for a top four finish in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

It promises to be an intriguing game at Elland Road with both managers eager to play positive, entertaining football. The German tactician has shuffled his squad nicely since replacing Frank Lampard, but the difficulty in keeping everybody happy has been seen with Christian Pulisic’s lack of involvement, especially from the start, but Tuchel is adamant the United States star remains under consideration: “He is in my plans, he is an important player. I hope he stays patient, all of my players are competitors and want to play every single minute and this is what they show every day, the hunger and desire and this is what Christian shows. In the beginning he was a little unlucky because we knew how much of an impact he could have off the bench and we used this power and strength from him.”

LAST MEETING

Everything seemed to be going well for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea when Leeds visited Stamford Bridge back in December. Patrick Bamford gave the away side an early lead, but goals from Olivier Giroud, Kurt Zouma and Christian Pulisic secured victory for the Blues. That took Chelsea top of the nascent Premier League table, though their strong run of form was short-lived.

THOMAS TUCHEL SPEAKS TO BT SPORT

“[On Havertz] He had an excellent match against Everton. He was out for some games. He missed many weeks with injury and when was able to come back we had very intensive matches and it wasn’t the moment to throw him in there. We put extra load in training and I was doubting the decision to play him against Everton but he was impressive. That’s why we decided to give him another game from the start.”

HOW IT STANDS

Leeds, comfortably in midtable, can move level on points with tenth-placed Arsenal with a win today.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are looking to cement their place in the top four and could move above Leicester on goal difference with victory here.

CHANGES

Leeds have some defensive issues, with Liam Cooper out through injury. Pascal Struijk replaces him in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI.

And Thomas Tuchel mixes things up again, bringing in Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic to support Kai Havertz, who appears to be acting as the focal point up front.

Leeds vs Chelsea: Tuchel backs Pulisic

Thomas Tuchel has spoken about Christian Pulisic’s lack of involvement so far in his time at Stamford Bridge, providing context to the American’s role in his pre-match press conference:

He is in my plans, he is an important player. I hope he stays patient, all of my players are competitors and want to play every single minute and this is what they show every day, the hunger and desire and this is what Christian shows.
