Colts’ Michael Pittman not giving No. 11 jersey number to Carson Wentz

A No. 11 with a side of beef? Not quite.

Carson Wentz is heading to Indianapolis, but may be leaving his No. 11 uniform number in Philadelphia — that is, if Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman has anything to say about it.

Pittman currently dons the 11 for the Colts, but has no interest in giving up his jersey number, adding that he’s “locked in.”

“He actually texted me about two hours after the news broke, and he just asked me how I felt about it, and I told him that I was gonna stay, and he said that that was cool and that he would switch numbers, and it was that easy,” Pittman said on Monday’s “Good Morning Football.” “I mean, he was a chill guy about it, so that was awesome.”

“I am No. 11. I don’t think there’s any deal that is gonna be done,” Pittman added, to TMZ.

Pittman said that Wentz would go about the situation respectfully, not demanding the number or pressing the issue, and that he would feel uncomfortable taking money in exchange for the number.

The Colts’ trade for Wentz reunites the passer with former Philly OC and current Colts HC Frank Reich, with whom Wentz had great success in 2017 before a knee injury sidelined him the remainder of the year.

Wentz was having an MVP-caliber season with the Eagles in 2017: 33 touchdowns to just seven interceptions in 13 games. The Eagles would win Super Bowl 52 with Nick Foles under center, and Reich would take the Colts job after the season.

The Colts traded a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional second-round pick for Wentz earlier in February, filling the hole left by a retiring Philip Rivers. Pittman himself had a solid rookie season with Rivers, catching 40 passes for 503 yards and a touchdown in 13 games.

All’s well that ends well, and certainly both parties know that the only numbers that matter will be the ones they put up on Sundays next season.
